Adult Voice Lessons in Jacksonville, FL — Beginners Welcome
It's not too late, and you're not "tone deaf." Plenty of adults have wanted to sing for years and just never had someone show them how. Lessons start exactly where you are.
Singing lessons for grown-ups
Adults start voice lessons for all kinds of reasons. Some want to finally sing at karaoke without dread. Some want to join a church choir or a community theatre show. Some used to sing years ago and want their voice back. And plenty just want one hour a week that's entirely theirs.
Whatever the reason, the approach is the same: an honest, unhurried assessment of your voice, then a plan built around your range, the music you like and how you learn. No generic curriculum, no pressure to perform before you're ready.
Adults also tend to progress quickly once they have the right tools. You already know what you want to sound like — lessons give you the breath support, technique and confidence to actually get there.
Common reasons adults start lessons
- Singing in a church choir, praise team or community chorus
- Karaoke, open mics or singing with friends
- Singing at a wedding, celebration or memorial
- Getting back to a voice you had years ago
- Stress relief, breath control and a weekly reset
“I don't teach a curriculum. I teach the voice that walks in the door.”
— Vicki Lee, vocal coach since 2004
What adult lessons cover
Your plan is your own, but most adult students spend time on these.
Finding your real voice
Many adults have been singing too high, too low, or too quietly for years. Lessons find where your voice actually sounds best.
Breath support
Steady, low breathing so you can hold notes and finish phrases without running out of air.
Pitch you can trust
Ear training and simple exercises that make singing in tune feel reliable instead of lucky.
Range without strain
Gently expanding what you can sing, and learning to reach higher notes without yelling or straining.
Confidence in front of people
Rehearsing the performance itself so nerves stop being the thing that holds you back.
Your songs, your style
Country, gospel, pop, classic rock, standards — you bring the music you love and learn to sing it well.

Before you book
Am I too old to start voice lessons?
No. Adults of any age are welcome, including retirees. Your voice responds to training at any age — it's a muscle, and it improves with consistent practice.
What if I think I'm tone deaf?
True tone deafness is rare. Most people who believe they're tone deaf have simply never trained their ear. Pitch-matching exercises are one of the first things Vicki works on.
Do I need to read music?
No. Many students never read music at all. Vicki teaches by ear and by feel, and can introduce music reading if you want it.
How long until I notice a difference?
Most students notice a real shift in breath control and confidence within the first several weeks, depending on where they start and how often they practice between lessons.
Are lessons in person or online?
Both. In-studio lessons are at Studio 105 Recording, 8570 Rampart Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32244. Online lessons run live over Zoom.
